bueno comienzo con este EXTENSO tema
hace unos dias me dispuse a instalar Linux/Ubuntu 7.10 en mi computador y por surte todo marcho bien hasta el momento q quise realizar la conexion a internet.
Yo tengo un modem xavi x8821r y una placa de red RealTek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet Nic integrada en el motherboard.
Primero segui las instruciones del tutorial y abri un terminal y empeze con el "sudo pppoeconf" luego q detecto la placa me listo q tenia 1 (a veces 2 no se por q) y segui con la configuracion.
Sorpresa al querer iniciar el FF no estaba conectado me decia, entoces empezo el dolor de cabeza.
Empeze a buscar soluciones y nada todos el mismo preoblema y nadie tenia la solucion.
Hice un plog y me dio lo siguiente:

luego hice esto q me dijeron en otro lado:
Deverias cambiar en una parte del archivo
/etc/ppp/options
para hacerlo coloca esto en la consola

sudo gedit /etc/ppp/options
y busca estas lineas:
# Set the MTU [Maximum Transmit Unit] value to <n>. Unless the peer
# requests a smaller value via MRU negotiation, pppd will request that
# the kernel networking code send data packets of no more than n bytes
# through the PPP network interface.
#mtu <n>
y dejalo así:
# Set the MTU [Maximum Transmit Unit] value to <n>. Unless the peer

Pero nada.......
Alguien me puede ayudar y darme la solucion final a esto??pro favor...

PD.:el modem tiene conexion a ethernet.
en esta imagen es lo q me deberia mostrar no?? (sin conexion inalambrica)
bueno la cuestion es q no me muestra asi me muestra conexion telefonica y otra q ahora no me acuerdo pero la de ethernet no me la muestra...como hago para q la muestre??
me parece q tengo q instalar los drivers de esa tarjeta es una Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
quise configurar el modem en modo router pero al finalizar no pude abrir ninguna pag de nternet mas...asi q lo volvi a la configuracion de fabrica...
bueno el problema es groso y en nigun lado me lo saben responder alguien aqui q sepa??
el modem NO es routeable!!
